Time to Detox

The human body is amazing. It comes with natural means of removing toxins from itself through the digestive tract, liver, kidneys and skin.

Consider for a moment the ingredients we consume, cosmetics we apply and the industries that operate near the places where many of us live. Even within our own bodies, an imbalance in gut bacteria may produce toxins that contribute to a host of illnesses beyond the gut such as depression, diabetes and Alzheimer’s disease.

Here are a few detoxification tips that you can consider on your own:

Reduce exposure to avoidable toxins
This includes making dietary changes that include more healthy whole foods, drinking more water and limiting your consumption of processed foods, sugar and alcohol.

Get adequate sleep
While we sleep the brain is able to remove certain toxins that accumulate within it throughout the day. Sleep deprivation disrupts this process which may lead to a higher susceptibility to depression, anxiety and other conditions.

Nurture your microbiome
You may be able to help restore the good bacteria in your gut and re-establish a balance by including specific fibres known as prebiotics in your diet. You can get these from natural sources such as artichokes, garlic and oats or an individualised supplement from one of our Naturopaths.

Get exercise
Studies show that exercise offers a multitude of benefits for the body ranging from a lower risk of heart disease to improved mood and greater longevity. In addition, staying active may help you reduce inflammation which may, in turn, help the rest of your body’s systems perform their detox duties more effectively.

At Nurtura Health we design individual Detoxification Programs most suited to your health needs and will tailor your detoxification so that you can achieve the best possible results. Throughout the personalised program, your Naturopath will prescribe nutritional and herbal formulas with dietary and lifestyle guidelines to support and enhance your detoxification process.
