What isn’t whole health?
Often we have clients present to us with a lifestyle that they think is healthy. Their life may look like this –
- overworking
- no or little exercise
- coffee addiction
- late nights
- drug and alcohol use
- sitting watching tv, bingeing using that as downtime
- over-committing
- negative thinking
- poor eating habits
- smoking
- life is hectic and unbalanced, stressful
This can lead to Oxidative Stress!
What is Oxidative Stress?
When the body is in a state of high Oxidative Stress, the factors mentioned earlier may be the cause. So what is Oxidative Stress? The easiest way to describe it is by using a metaphor. When a mango is picked at its prime deliciousness, it appears ripe and juicy, the flesh is unblemished, and it satisfies you. But over time, left out on the bench, neglected, it can rot, and the skin becomes brown. This is akin to what Oxidative Stress does to the body. Whilst the body may not rot, it can become toxic. How? From everyday life, including pollution, cigarettes and the environment, to lifestyle choices and habits. Oxidative Stress occurs when unstable molecules lose their electron in typical body processes, presenting as inflammation, illness and disease.
How can you reduce Oxidative Stress?
Six anti-oxidants are used to combat Oxidative Stress proactively;
- Quercetin
- Vitamin C
- Vitamin E
- Epigallocatechin 3-gallate (EGCG)
- Curcumin
- Glutathione
